Going Old School
One of the things I really love about photography is the chance to meet and interact with interesting and passionate people. I've worked with ballet and belly dancer, and volleyball and roller derby players. All of them with a passion for what they do. And now I have the pleasure to include Tiffany Rose, who is both an instructor and national competitor in pole dancing.
This shoot was especially fun for me, since Tiffany was looking for something very dramatic in the lighting. Her love of the styling of "Sin City" lead us to go old school and shoot in a Film Noir style which is known for its high contrast, and use of darkness and shadow.
Noir is all about controlling the light. In these setups, every light had a grid on it to control where light spills, so you can focus on something like face and pop it out of the frame.
or maybe to blow out the hair and highlight the action in a shot.
In any case, Noir is certainly a fun style to shoot and a great chance to force you to think about your lighting setup.
So a special thanks to Poletential for the use of the space, thanks again to Tiffany. Good luck at Nationals!
